My mom (the kids call her Uma) taught Seth the sound a bicycle bell makes the other day. This is why I love Auditory Verbal Therapy. It's all about learning to listen, and you can make a teachable moment out of anything! Family is really the biggest teacher, as the AVT professional teaches different ways to fit learning to listen into every day life. It's really natural.
Seth saw my mom's bike, and wanted to check it out. She took that moment to show him that her bike had a bell, and that the bell made a sound.
She dinged the bell a few times, and talked about the kind of sound the bell made, and before we knew it, Seth was reaching out to ring the bell himself, then looking very proud of himself after he heard it ring.
So then, he proceeded to do it again. And again. And again. And so on, as I'm sure you can imagine. But it's so important for him to learn about cause and effect, that he made that sound and can remake it...I love seeing his brain work.
I can't think of a better Mother's Day gift!

I agree with you. That is an amazing Mother's Day gift from God!
It's those simple things that we all take for granted that can bring us so much joy after we see our child "discover" them.
