However, today I was hanging out with the ladies who make up 1/2 of the couples who will be joining us at our table for the Gala, and they completely flipped for the chance to theme it up.
The decade we chose? The 80's.
We've got several ideas going, and I have more than a few hideous dresses saved in my ebay auctions that I'll have to choose from, but I want more input! If you were dressing the part (cocktail wear) and decorating a table in an 80's theme, what would you do?

There's always the side ponytail... and big bangs!
Maybe some leopard print on the table...
hideous... is all that comes to mind...lol and you already said the word!
bracelets, bracelets, bracelets! :) Sounds like a bunch of fun!
I would go with BIG BIG CURLY hair. and maybe some gloves that don't have fingers, do you remember those? :)
NEON!!!! Big obnoxious sunglasses, a million bracelets, and of course, Cyndi Lauper!

BIG hair and maybe one of those bubble type dresses
I would totally do the whole Molly Ringwald in Pretty in Pink!!
OK, this might be a stretch but here is what I would do...(not that you have a ton of time on your hands but)...I would burn a CD for each person @ the table w/ some sweet 80's tunes...have the other ladies help you pick out their favs...then, not only do you have an awesome CD to remember, but you have a name holder for their place @ the table.....OK..and for the clothing...remember those sweaters that had the huge neck that you pulled onto your shoulders...and blow out the sides of your hair with hairspray....=)
How about "placemats" made from those teen magazine posters of teen idols of the 80's? Remember Tiger Beat?
I just came across your blog and after reading the name of it I had to read it. I have an almost three year old little girl who has Auditory Neuropathy. She was implanted November of 2007. She has done amazing with the implant. I just posted a video clip of some of her talking. It sounds like he just had the surgery done. I bet you are so excited for activation day. Congrats and I hope he is feeling well.
Ruffles galore! Think 80's prom. I'm sure I can find a few pictures of my sister at her formals that would be a good inspiration! I'll look when I get home. :o)
Surely you can find an 80s bridesmaid dress with big puffy sleeves. Make sure you have big bangs and "wings" on the side of your hair!
Don't forget the blue eyeliner! Maybe a slap bracelet or two...or was that more 90's? Lots of neon too!
I love the music idea that Eyeglasses and Endzones has!
For the clothing, I would do an off the shoulder fuschia colored dress, BIG hair (maybe teased to give it volume) and some brightly colored earrings(maybe circles that dangle).
For the table, I would splatter a table cloth with different neon color paint (think orange, yellow, green, purple). I also like the idea of doing discos on the table. Maybe disco cupcakes, those are SUPER neat. The kids would love those.
FLASHDANCE attire comes to mind! Love those leg warmers. BRITE Polka dots etc.... Rue 21 sells some good 80's jewelry and it's cheap... & a banana clip in the hair always goes well.
For the table you could do take a plain black table cloth and splatter neon paint!
Have fun!!
All of the stores are now selling the neon glasses with the shades as well!
We did a party like this for a few friends last year.
Many of them dressed up like Madonna with the fish net gloves and stalkings, little tutus teased out hair and insane amounts of bangles. I love the idea!!!
