Found it!

Man, there is nothing better then starting off your day by finding your camera cord, is there? Well, maybe that and finally putting blinds on your living room window, even though you've lived in your house for 18 months. Well, maybe that and your baby's physical therapist telling you your son is developing age appropriate reflexes!

In all seriousness, thanks for all of your comments on my last post. I have to admit, I was a little afraid to hit publish, as just about everyone I know in real life reads this blog. But I figured...we're all working on transparency, right? Just getting it all written out helped me a lot, and I want to thank you all for your kind words and for how many of you were kind enough to admit that life has been a struggle for you at times, too. I think it's so easy to go through life being convinced everyone has it better than you do...sometimes it's really refreshing to hear that others are struggling too, and it's totally normal to wonder what in the world God is doing with us. No one likes not knowing the plan, and it's part of our complete surrender to him to have occasional setbacks where we throw tantrums and scream "But I want to understand it all now!" It's kind of like when Ava freaks out because she doesn't want to have to sound out all the words to finish the story...she just wants me to tell her what happens, already.

I know we'll get there, John and I, and as a friend emailed me this morning, we are very different people since Eli's death and Seth's diagnosis. They have changed us, for better or for worse, and we won't ever be the people we were again. We have to get to know each other again.

But again, thanks for reaching out in your comments and emails. I sat up reading them last night, and I was in tears over many of the stories I read. You are all in my prayers, as well.
Now, onto more fun things. Gala Pictures!

Mara's 70's table. Isn't it adorable?

Tina and Me. Isn't she the cutest thing you've ever seen?

Shelley and I. No, we did not plan to match.

John...I love this picture!

John really looked the part!

I'm glad that you've put evryhting in perspectitive. You'll make it!

Since you and John have dealt with the death in different ways, try sitting down and talking with each other. No judging about who is right, just two people listening to each other and trying to find themselves again in the midst of everything that's happened.

I will tell you one thing: You will come out stronger in the end after everything you've gone through. What you've gone through isn't for nothing! Look at all of the people you've helped (and willl continue to help) because of it.

How fun! It looks like a great party! For my 30th we rented out a roller skating rink and had an 80's style party. Those decade themes are just so fun!

Love the outfits. YOu should have teased your hair a bit more though!!

I just want to tell you that it is very brave of you to admit everything for people to read. My husband and I have struggled this past year since the birth of our first child, I can't imagine what it would be to go through what you have. You will make it through though.

My brother died almost 6 years ago at the age of 27 leaving behind a wife and two kids. And while it is not the same as losing a child, his death impacted my life in a way that many don't understand. I am not the same person. My mom is not the same person and my father is definitely not the same person. I have never seen my dad cry before as much as I have in the last 6 years, in some ways my brother's death hardened him and in other ways it softened him. He takes time out to do what he enjoys and works less. He makes it a point to call and check on me and my family and to spend extra time with us. (all things he never used to do) I guess what I am trying to say is that he "picks his battles" Some things that really aren't that important get set aside for what really is.

Isn't that what we are supposed to do? Lift each other up and encourage one another. I am currently mulling over some verses in James (1:2-18 to be exact) and I thought about you. Our pastor talked on these verses Sunday and his phrase (from the KJV) was to "count it all joy".

Praying,

Karmen

PS I have an Ava too. She's two. I think Ava's are pretty special! I'm not biased at all. :0) Take care!

So glad to hear that you are feeling lifted and encouraged today! I will continue to keep you in my thought and prayers. Never forget that he is able to do far above and beyond what you are capable of asking, thinking or imagining! I will be looking forward to reading about the awesome things God does in your life, and marriage.

You are right my friend. You and your hubby are forever changed and need to get to know the new you's. Counseling would probably be best, even if it is just among yourselves or with your pastor or something. I would say every one of us needs that, whether our marriages are good, bad or ugly. Figuring things out and making sure all the cogs in the machine are working well.

Love the table, you did a great job and you all look so cute in your outfits!

Love and Prayer,

Melanie
